Cutting Hair for the Homeless Boosts Mindsets and Images
Daniel has spent the morning opposite Flinders Street Station asking passers-by for loose change.
The 50 year old is struggling with heroin addiction and homelessness – he needs $28 for a warm bed to sleep in tonight.
The last thing on Daniel’s mind is the state of his hair – in fact he can’t recall the last time he had a trim and shave.
But apprentice barber Nasir Sobhani, or Nas to his mates, has been bringing his skills to the streets free-of-charge to help those like Daniel who are doing it tough.
Daniel sits cross-legged, head hanging low over his makeshift sign when heavily-tattooed Nas approaches. He explains the offer and it doesn’t take long before Daniel is sitting on a milk crate, his hair getting dampened with a spray bottle.
